Sunrise Middle School Student Life

Sunrise Middle School Student Life and Counseling Resources

Counseling Resources at Sunrise Middle School include both Academic Advising and Social Emotional Learning and Support. Our offices are located in the Student Resource Center which is in the front office.

Maggie Chinea LCSW, LISAC, is our Social Emotional Learning Counselor who is here to provide support for students who may be experiencing challenges with significant mood/behavioral issues that impact their learning and success. Social Emotional Learning involves teaching self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills and responsible decision making. Ms. Chinea is available to assist with teaching tools and coping strategies to manage stressors that impact students’ success at school. Ms. Chinea may be contacted through email at or telephone 602-449-6114

Dawn Woods, M.Ed., is our Academic Counselor who is available to provide students and parents with strategies for developing and maintaining academic success. Ms. Woods monitors student grades and coordinates student 504 plans. In addition, Ms. Woods serves as a liaison with teachers to assist students in addressing academic concerns. Ms. Woods may be contacted through email at or telephone 602-449-6116.

The Sunrise yearbook is produced each year by the yearbook class and is a great memento. October 10 through December 23, 2020 pricing will be $30. After December 23, 2020 the price will be $35.  Only a limited number of yearbooks are available for sale and it is likely they will sell out. We encourage you to pre-order your yearbook early. Any available yearbooks will be sold on campus during the last week of school on a first come, first served basis.
